What to expect of summer 2022

Our statistics provide an answer to a realistic market picture. The real-time data reflect the situation of almost 3,400 Austrian companies.

The Booking Monitor displays interest, inquiries, bookings and cancellations in real time and thus visualizes booking developments in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

The booking monitor

Since all incoming requests and bookings are recorded by easybooking, the Booking Monitor shows 100% of the bookings and cancellations, regardless of whether they were entered or removed directly or manually by the reception via a regional website or a booking portal. The data generated in this way can be accessed by our partners using a specially developed statistics tool.

Overview of the hits and searches

The graph gives an overview of the development of the number of visits on the widgets provided by easybooking. These are the booking endine and the request form, which are integrated into the website by all accommodation providers that are using easybooking as software solution. The hits, searches and sent requests are measured to determine when the interest in holidays in Austria will increase again.

The number of requests

The first sign of improvement in the tourism industry is the interest in holidays, measurable by the incoming requests that guests send to our accommodation providers. This graph automatically displays, on a daily basis, how the number of enquiries has changed compared to the previous year. We experienced the absolute low point in March of last year: in March 2020, for example, there were 93% fewer inquiries compared to the same day last year.

The booking sources

Up-to-date we register the source of the booking and whether our hosts are able to convince the guests to book directly. In addition to the share of bookings via OTAs, the proportion of bookings via the destination website is also displayed. The value of direct bookings consists of all sources that are generated directly including bookings made by phone or e-mail. Currently, the proportion of bookings via the booking portals is increasing again.

Will there be a summer tourism?

A relevant question: will inquiries & bookings be received for the upcoming summer season? Are guests interested in traveling despite uncertain forecasts? The anticipation of vacation in the warm months in 2021 was all the greater after the winter season! And we assume the same right now: as soon as guests can, they will take their chance for vacation! In this graph the number for the requests and bookings of the last 7 days is shown and automatically updated daily.

Booking behavior

The trend line has been declining since the start of the pandemic from February 2020 and bottomed out at the end of March 2020 with up to 91% fewer incoming bookings compared to the previous year. And the number of requests shows the same values. While the summer months of 2020 showed a strong upswing again, activity fell again in the winter months of 2020/21. Since the announcements in mid-September 2021, tourism has experienced a renewed upswing and the industry is enjoying more inquiries and bookings.

Cancellations were higher than ever

At the beginning of the crisis, since February 2020, vacations have been increasingly canceled and on March 13, 2020 the cancellation rate was up to 944% higher than in the previous year. The time course clearly shows that parallel to the improvement in the general situation, mainly in the summer of 2020, the number of cancellations also fell again. Also on November 19, 2021 there were +574% cancellations compared to the previous year, which is due to the announcement of the 4th lockdown for Austria.

Digital solution for hosts.

Restart successfully.

This page is updated daily at 10:00 CET to monitor booking behaviors in the DACH region. The data is based on a comparison of a customer group already active in the previous year with an average of 1 million overnight stays per month. These small to medium-sized establishments with an average of less than 10 units from the holiday regions in the D-A-CH area (mainly Austria) are characteristic of the survey.
